Week 2 Recently I have had quite a lot of discussions with my students about plastic and being eco-friendly. I thought that it might be a good idea to bring this topic up here and share our thoughts with a bigger audience. The question isn't really about plastic being good or bad. It's more of your feelings connected with the problem of plastic and daily solutions that we can all put to use. Watch a short clip first and let me know what you think in the comments below. I’ve recently realized that together with my family we produce 3 -4 bags full of plastic every week. Over 200 yearly - year by year. It sounds quite scary but it not so easy to stop this while plastic is everywhere and there is almost no substitute. I keep my fingers cross for removing drinking straws from public places (I’ve already stopped using them) but this action seems to be a drop in the basket. I have no doubt that we should start plastic revolution and zero waste movement from our own households. We can do many simple things such as saying no to plastic bags – choosing reusable ones, buying water filter instead mineral water in plastic bottles or using biodegradable lunch boxes.

I think we don't really realize how much plastic we use every day. There has to be more education in this respect otherwise people will be turning a blind eye to using plastic. We seem to be taking our planet for granted. We want to live comfortable lives with our coffees to go. I must confess that I am no better. I have loads of plastic items at home. But I try to use canvas bags for shopping and I no longer order take aways.

I use a lot of plastic. It is not that I want to use it but it is very hard to find products that are not packed in plastic. When I see a video like this it makes me think more about problem with plastic. I feel that people need to be more supported by local governments and laws that put taxes on using plastic, burning plastic etc. We need more education and more resolutions.

Introducing some regulations wouldn't be bad.

When I first saw a documentary concerning the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, I simply couldn’t believe it. I wasn’t aware that plastic-fantastic jeopardizes our future so much. No wonder, plastic is really everywhere. Even if we want to be more eco-conscious, we often give up because it is still easier and cheaper to use plastic. I agree with Ania and Marta that education is key. But without a substitute for plastic - equally cheap and worldwide accessible- it will be very difficult to solve this problem without a harm to our Planet.

I am using wooden toothbrush and wooden cutlery for eating out. I try to buy things in bigger containers. I am very worried about how much garbage we make every day. It is sad we destroy our planet.

Problem of plastic is really close to my heart. I try to take care of it every day. Using reuseable counterparts is first, small step. Talking about this problem with other people is also very important, I see how many of us aren't aware. I believe that tax for plastic packages should help, but still this isn't a final solution.

It's also close to my heart. I do hope that there are more people who aren't indifferent to the problems of our planet.
